MELTING POT
In 1906 Israel Zangwill wrote a play entitled “The Melting Pot.” The played viewed America as a divinely inspired crucible in which all ethnic groups would be blended together and emerge as “Model Americans.” Zangwill’s cast of characters included only Europeans. No Latinos, African Americans, Asians, or American Indians were included.
