The Metropolitan D.C.
Desk is operated by Dr. Judy Smith-Davis,Project
Director for Knowledge Production and Linkages.
The Metro D.C. Desk is located in Northern Virginia, adjacent to Washington, DC, and therefore represents the project's direct link to the many partnerships that have been developed with Washington-based professional organizations, federal projects, nonprofit agencies, advocates, and offices of the federal government. The Metro Desk has also been the main connection between Alliance and individual state directors of special education, CSPD coordinators, and other personnel in state education agencies. In addition, the Metro D.C. Desk has played a major role in developing content for many of the Alliance Project's Best Practice Seminars.
The Metro D.C. Desk produces the majority of the printed materials distributed by The Alliance Project, including the State Map Series; abstracts and annotated state-specific/competition-specific lists of OSEP projects awarded each fiscal year; extensive syntheses of distance education and technologies for teacher preparation; fact sheets; and papers on demographics and other topics of interest to consumers. The Metro D.C. Desk also identifies and gains permission to distribute appropriate publications produced by other projects and agencies as part of the Alliance Product List.
